Background

  • 007 First Light vs Hitman

007 First Light plays like a more guided, cinematic Hitman: IO Interactive's Glacier engine, social stealth and several routes to each goal carry over, but the levels are more linear, the hero is a named Bond, and set pieces and chases replace Hitman's open sandboxes.

  • IO Interactive

IO Interactive, the independent Copenhagen studio behind Hitman, made and self-published 007 First Light on its own Glacier engine, with Amazon MGM Studios as its Bond partner.

  • James Bond Games in Order

The major James Bond games run from GoldenEye 007 (1997) through the EA and Activision years to 007 Legends (2012), then a 14-year gap until IO Interactive's 007 First Light on May 27, 2026.

Characters

  • Bawma

Bawma, "The Pirate King", is the leader of the Aleph black market in 007 First Light, played by Lenny Kravitz in voice and likeness; Bond meets him in Mauritania in The Past Never Dies.

Patrick Gibson plays a 26-year-old James Bond in 007 First Light, with Lennie James as his mentor John Greenway, Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, Gemma Chan as Selina Tan and Lenny Kravitz as the Pirate King Bawma.

  • James Bond

  • John Greenway

John Greenway is James Bond's mentor in 007 First Light, a former 00 agent who runs the revived 00 program's training, played by Lennie James.

  • M, Q and Moneypenny

In 007 First Light, Priyanga Burford plays M, the head of MI6 who recruits Bond, Alastair Mackenzie plays Q, who runs the Q-Lab and its gadgets, and Kiera Lester plays Eve Moneypenny, M's right hand.

  • Music and Theme Song

007 First Light's theme song is "First Light", sung by Lana Del Rey and written by Del Rey with David Arnold, released Apr 16, 2026; the game's score is by the composer duo The Flight.

  • Nicholas Webb

Spoiler warning. Sir Nicholas Webb, CEO of Webb Industries and creator of MI6's AI THEIA, is the real villain of 007 First Light with his son Damien; Anthony Howell and Bart Edwards play them.

  • Selina Tan

Dr. Selina Tan is MI6's Head of Tactical Simulation in 007 First Light, the character who runs the TacSim training mode, played by Gemma Chan in her first video game role.

Gameplay

  • Accessibility

007 First Light offers full button remapping with presets, hold toggles, automatic climbing and vaulting, customizable subtitles, menu narration, QTE autocomplete and photosensitivity options. It lacks chase assists and captions for guard alerts, and no source confirms colorblind modes.

  • Combat and Takedowns

Combat in 007 First Light mixes free-flowing hand-to-hand (punches, grabs, parries, side-steps, throws and environmental slams) with gunplay that opens only once Bond earns License to Kill. Focus slows time for precise shots, and takedowns can be silent or loud.

  • Controls

In 007 First Light the Q-Lens is held on L1 (PS5), LB (Xbox) or Alt (PC keyboard), gadgets sit on four buttons fired while holding it, R2 drags or tackles enemies, and the Touchpad opens the collectibles menu. Every button can be remapped. IO Interactive has published no full control list.

  • Difficulty Settings

007 First Light has three difficulty presets from the start, which guides call Novice, Intended and Purist (IOI's own posts say Easy, Normal and Hard), plus the 00 difficulty added on Oct 1, 2026 for players who finish the campaign. Difficulty does not affect trophies or achievements.

  • Driving and Chases

007 First Light has scripted driving and chase set pieces in its campaign, among them a car chase in Slovakia, an escape drive, boat rides and a bin lorry escape in London, plus the armed Aston Martin Valhalla in TacSim's Valhalla Protocol since October 2026. Critics found the driving serviceable but floaty, and there are no chase assists.

  • Gadgets

007 First Light's Q Branch gadgets are the Q-Watch, the always-on Q-Lens, the Dart Phone, the Laser Strap, the Flash Mine, the Smoke Pod, the Missile Pen and the Shockwave Camera. They unlock through the story, run on batteries or chemicals, and are upgraded with Intel earned in TacSim.

  • Outfits and Unlocks

007 First Light's outfits come from the paid editions (four Deluxe outfits, the Specialist Edition's Classic Tuxedo, Obsidian Gold in the Collector's and Legacy), from TacSim unlocks bought with Intel at a Clearance Level, and from free events such as the IOI Account and Twitch drops. The Switch 2 Deluxe Edition adds the GoldenEye Suit.

  • Stealth and Disguises

Stealth in 007 First Light is IO Interactive's Creative Approach: eavesdrop for Opportunities, pickpocket keycards, use Instinct to lure guards or bluff past them, and take on mission-specific roles such as a crew member or event staff. Getting caught is rarely fatal, and full stealth is never required.

  • Weapons

Bond starts 007 First Light with a service pistol and can only fire once License to Kill is earned; more guns are picked up in missions or unlocked in TacSim with Intel and Clearance Level. IOI has named five TacSim unlocks, and Gamewatcher's playthrough lists 22 weapons in all.

Guides

  • Beginner's Guide

For a first run of 007 First Light, play on Intended, scan every area with the Q-Lens, eavesdrop before you act, keep Instinct topped up with takedowns for bluffs, ration batteries and chemicals, and do not worry about missing collectibles, since nothing is missable and Chapter Select opens after the story. TacSim needs a connection and pays the Intel that upgrades gadgets.

  • Collectibles

007 First Light has 92 collectibles: 36 Playing Cards, 23 Intel files, 14 Mementos, 10 Postcards and 9 Legacy Items, none of them missable. Finding them all unlocks the Gold trophy A collector's habit.

  • How Long to Beat

007 First Light's story takes about 15 to 20 hours; reviewers finished in 13 to 18.5 hours, IO Interactive pointed to about 20 for an average player, and everything, the platinum included, takes about 20 hours by PowerPyx's count or 30 to 35 by Beebom's.

  • Safe Codes and Passwords

Every code in 007 First Light is fixed for every player: the hotel laundry door 1805 and Manager's Office safe 1952, the museum CCTV password Password12 and maintenance door 3256, the penthouse safe 1493, the armory 1324, the Q-03 cabinet 4397 and the Antarctica archive door 1864.

  • Trophies and Achievements

007 First Light has 38 PlayStation trophies (1 Platinum, 3 Gold, 14 Silver, 20 Bronze) and 37 achievements on Steam and Xbox, 19 of them hidden on Steam. PowerPyx rates the platinum 2/10 at about 20 hours in one playthrough, with nothing missable.

Missions

  • A Night Out

A Night Out is 007 First Light's third mission (IO Interactive's 02), a recruits' night at a London nightclub that turns into a field exercise, with four routes upstairs, cameos by JackSepticEye and Chase & Status, 2 collectibles and about 23 minutes of play.

  • Against the Odds

Against the Odds is 007 First Light's first mission (IO Interactive's 00), a prologue in Iceland where Bond, unarmed, infiltrates a research camp taken over by mercenaries, finds an antidote and frees the captives. It takes about 13 minutes and holds 4 collectibles and 9 challenges.

  • All the Time in the World

All the Time in the World is 007 First Light's fourth mission (IO Interactive's 03), set at the World Chess Championship in the Grand Carpathian Hotel in Slovakia; the Manager's Office safe code is 1952 and the laundry door is 1805. It runs about an hour, with 27 challenges and 9 collectibles.

  • For England

For England is the last mission of 007 First Light, mission 10 in IO Interactive's numbering (Chapter 17 in PowerPyx's list), set at MI6 headquarters in London during an attack. It ends with the final boss fight and earns the Gold trophy For king and country.

  • Knightfall

Knightfall is mission 07 of 007 First Light (Chapter 12 in PowerPyx's list), in which Bond and Greenway climb Webb Industries' headquarters in the City of London to a fortified structure called the Perch. The penthouse safe code is 1493, and the Missile Pen opens the way out of the data center.

  • Missions List

007 First Light has 11 story missions by IO Interactive's own numbering, 00 Against the Odds to 10 For England, which the guide sites split into 17 chapters (11 played, 6 mostly cutscenes). Chapter Select opens after the story and jumps to any checkpoint.

  • The Needle's Eye

The Needle's Eye is 007 First Light's second mission (IO Interactive's 01), Bond's 00 training in Malta under Greenway, where the game teaches Focus, Instinct, bluffing and the Q-Watch. The guides follow it with A New Home, his advanced training, and together they hold 5 collectibles.

  • The Past Never Dies

The Past Never Dies is 007 First Light's mission in Aleph, Bawma's pirate black market in Mauritania, which IO Interactive numbers 04 and 05 together with Beyond the Grave; Bond raises $100,000 to enter an auction, fights in the fight club, follows 009's trail to a shipwreck and escapes by car. It is about an hour and a half, with 24 challenges and 12 collectibles.

  • Time to Die

Time to Die is mission 08 of 007 First Light (Chapter 14 in PowerPyx's list), set at The Pearl, a luxury resort in Vietnam, where Bond goes undercover as a rich playboy to stop a murder. Bond arrives by speedboat; the game's boat chase comes later, in Wave of the Future.

  • Uninvited

Uninvited is mission 06 of 007 First Light (Chapter 11 in PowerPyx's 17-chapter list), set in Bond's Bayswater flat and at a tech industry gala in a Kensington museum. It holds 12 collectibles, the CCTV password "Password12", the maintenance room code 3256 and the bin lorry escape.

  • Wave of the Future

Wave of the Future is mission 09 of 007 First Light (Chapter 16 in PowerPyx's list), in which Bond goes rogue and infiltrates a top-secret Webb Industries research facility in Antarctica to stop HYPERION. It is the longest chapter, about 1 hour 45 minutes, and the second to last; For England is the final mission.

Modes

  • Jungle Heist

Jungle Heist is a TacSim Operation in 007 First Light, added free on Oct 1, 2026. Bond returns to The Pearl resort in Vietnam to take classified documents from a guarded villa's safe, with the whole property open and nine challenges that reward Intel and XP.

  • TacSim

TacSim is 007 First Light's Tactical Simulation mode, run by Dr. Selina Tan at MI6. Its Escalations and Operations replay story locations with modifiers called Game Changers; challenges earn Intel and raise your Clearance Level, which unlock weapons and outfits. It needs an online connection.

  • Valhalla Protocol

The Valhalla Protocol is a set of four TacSim driving missions in 007 First Light, playable since Oct 5, 2026. Bond drives an armed Aston Martin Valhalla through the Slovakian mountains by day and by night, shooting targets with machine guns and missiles for time bonuses and a high score.
