James Bond in 007 First Light is a 26-year-old Royal Navy air crewman recruited into MI6's revived 00 program, played by Patrick Gibson in an origin story that ends with him earning his number.

Who is Bond at the start of 007 First Light?

The game opens in Iceland, where Bond, then serving with the Royal Navy, goes into a government research site taken over by "a ruthless band of hostiles" (IO Interactive); that mission is Against the Odds. MI6 summons him afterward, and M puts him into her 00 training program in Malta, six months behind the other recruits (Beebom). His instructor is John Greenway, a former 00 agent who goes by the book and clashes with Bond's habit of improvising (IOI and Amazon MGM Studios).

The setting is the present day: Kotaku describes modern London and European locations and a tone that follows the Daniel Craig films (Kotaku). Insider Gaming reports that the game is not canon with the films and does not tie into them (Insider Gaming).

On May 21, 2026 IOI posted a "Cast Sessions" interview with him about his first reaction to the role, working with the team and hearing the title song for the first time (IO Interactive).

21:49 The game drops a few hints rather than a biography. A collectible in Uninvited, set in Bond's Bayswater flat, is a "Bond Family Photo" on his nightstand (PowerPyx). Nine Legacy Items hidden through the story nod to the Bond of the films and novels, among them a Trilby Hat, a Tarot Deck and Jaws Design Specs (PowerPyx); see Collectibles.
