PS5 and Xbox Performance Modes

007 First Light runs at 60 fps in Performance mode and 30 fps in Quality mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X, at 60 fps in a single mode on PS5 Pro, and on Xbox Series S at 30 fps until update 1.3.0 (Oct 1, 2026) added a 60 fps Performance Mode.

007 First Light offers two modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X: Performance at 60 fps and Quality at 30 fps, with a higher resolution. The PS5 Pro has one mode at 60 fps using PSSR, and Xbox Series S launched at 30 fps only, until update 1.3.0 on Oct 1, 2026 added "a performance mode that targets 60 frames per second". IO Interactive's targets, given to Digital Foundry before launch, were 1080p internal in Performance and 1440p in Quality; Digital Foundry's measurements on the base PS5 came in lower, about 720p in Performance and about 1152p in Quality, as reported by Notebookcheck. The PS5 Pro is the best-looking console version by that analysis.

Quick facts

PS5 Performance 60 fps, Quality 30 fps
PS5 Pro One mode, 60 fps, PSSR upscaling
Xbox Series X Performance 60 fps, Quality 30 fps
Xbox Series S 30 fps at launch; 60 fps Performance Mode since 1.3.0 (Oct 1, 2026)
Ray tracing Ray traced global illumination on in both base PS5 modes
Path tracing PC only

IOI's targets and Digital Foundry's measurements

Console Mode IOI's target Digital Foundry measured
PS5 Performance 60 fps, 1080p internal Mostly 60 fps, about 720p internal with FSR 3.1.5
PS5 Quality 30 fps, 1440p internal, up to 4K output 30 fps with occasional dips, about 1152p internal
PS5 Pro One mode 60 fps, 1440p internal, up to 4K output, PSSR 2.0 Holds 60 fps, about 1000p internal with PSSR, sharper than PS5
Xbox Series X Performance 60 fps, 1080p internal Not in the reports read
Xbox Series X Quality 30 fps, 1440p internal, up to 4K output Not in the reports read
Xbox Series S One mode at launch 30 fps Not in the reports read

The two columns differ: IOI's numbers were targets given before launch, Digital Foundry's were measured on the release build. Gfinity's summary of the modes gives 720p and 1080p for the base PS5's two modes, close to Digital Foundry's figures. Digital Foundry's base PS5 video and article were not read for this page, only these accounts of them; its May 28, 2026 tech review, which centers on the PS5 Pro, is cited below.

Which mode should you use on PS5?

Performance, for most players. Digital Foundry found the base PS5's Performance mode mostly holds 60 fps, but at the cost of a softer image, downgraded shadows and flicker in fast camera pans, from FSR upscaling a roughly 720p image. Quality is sharper at about 1152p, at 30 fps with occasional dips below it. Both modes keep ray traced global illumination. For a stealth game where you watch guards and line up shots, the steadier 60 fps is usually the better trade; for screenshots, use Quality and Photo Mode.

Why does PS5 Pro have only one mode?

The PS5 Pro has no choice of modes: it runs one profile at 60 fps that Gfinity describes as matching the base PS5's Quality mode at Performance mode's frame rate. IOI's target was 1440p internal upscaled toward 4K with PSSR 2.0; Digital Foundry measured about 1000p internal, still clearly sharper than the base console's Performance mode. In its own May 28, 2026 tech review, Digital Foundry describes the Pro's resolution as dynamic, from 1440p at the top down to 900p at worst, with PSSR 2 making the output look "suitably 4K", and the performance problems of earlier showings "thoroughly addressed". No patch through Hotfix 1.3.2 (Oct 29, 2026) has added a second Pro mode.

Does 007 First Light run at 60 fps on Xbox Series S?

Yes, since Oct 1, 2026. At launch Series S was held to 30 fps, which IOI blamed on its 10 GB of memory and limited GPU headroom, adding that a patch could change it. Update 1.3.0, the Extended Operations update, "Added 60 FPS Performance Mode setting (Xbox Series S)", switchable in the graphics settings. The same notes fixed character models looking too dark in that mode, lighting smearing, and NPCs appearing late or in mid-air on Series S. IOI did not give the new mode's resolution.

Series S also had the most crashes early on: update 1.1.0 fixed five crashes, mostly on Series S, on Jul 24, 2026. Every patch is on Patch Notes and Updates.

How does IOI get 60 fps on consoles?

IOI told Digital Foundry that the console versions spread CPU work over eight worker threads, and that the PlayStation build runs up to four asynchronous compute pipelines at once on IOI's own Glacier engine (IO Interactive). The PC version and its path tracing are on PC Performance and Path Tracing; the Switch 2 version, whose frame rate IOI has not published, is on Nintendo Switch 2 Version.
