The Needle's Eye
The Needle's Eye is 007 First Light's second mission (IO Interactive's 01), Bond's 00 training in Malta under Greenway, where the game teaches Focus, Instinct, bluffing and the Q-Watch. The guides follow it with A New Home, his advanced training, and together they hold 5 collectibles.
The Needle's Eye is the second mission of 007 First Light, 01 in IO Interactive's patch notes and Chapter 3 in the guides: Bond arrives in Malta six months behind the other 00 recruits and goes through basic training under John Greenway, which is where the game teaches most of its tools. The guides list two more chapters before the next mission, The Heart of the Matter (London, mostly cutscenes) and A New Home (Bond's advanced training), and this page covers all three. Beebom times them at 30, 8 and 15 minutes.

What happens in The Needle's Eye?
IOI's own line for Malta is agent training "with the best and brightest" on the island's shores. Into Indie Games' walkthrough (May 28, 2026) sets out the order:
- Arrival. Greenway drives Bond from the airport, and Bond loses a fight to Monroe, the top recruit.
- Basic training. A lap of the island with Cressida, a climb to a red flag, target shooting, and a fake surrender that ends in a takedown.
- THEIA. M explains MI6's AI, which had given Bond less than a 1% chance of success in Iceland.
- The Q-Lab. Q hands Bond his watch, and Selina Tan unlocks TacSim, her training simulations. Moneypenny gives him keys to a safehouse for six months.
- The polygraph. Greenway puts Bond on a polygraph, then Bond interrogates Cressida. Into Indie Games notes that neither choice changes the story.
- Field test. Bond tries the Dart Phone and Focus, then steals a flag from the guarded barracks compound.
The guides split these steps across chapters differently. PowerPyx puts the Q-Watch's arrival in Chapter 4 and the Dart Phone in Chapter 5, A New Home, which Beebom describes as advanced training and harder assignments. Into Indie Games has no A New Home page; its Needle's Eye page runs through the safehouse.
What the training teaches
- Focus slows time and needs a full Instinct meter, which takedowns refill (Combat and Takedowns).
- Lure draws a guard to you, and Bluff talks your way past one (Stealth and Disguises).
- The Q-Watch runs on a battery that recharges at blue battery markers; from Chapter 4 it also highlights collectibles in yellow (Gadgets).
These are the basics the rest of the campaign assumes; Beginner's Guide collects the tips.

Fixes in later updates
- 1.1.1 (Aug 27, 2026): fixed a rare crash after pausing in Advanced Training in Malta.
- 1.3.0 (Oct 1, 2026): fixed the Bluff option appearing before it was unlocked, the truck failing to move at the training facility gate, cones without collision in Basic Training, and the Watch display jumping after the Dart tutorial, and added a missing ledge and squeeze-through in the Malta arena.

A Night OutA Night Out is 007 First Light's third mission (IO Interactive's 02), a recruits' night at a London nightclub that turns into a field exercise, with four routes upstairs, cameos by JackSepticEye and Chase & Status, 2 collectibles and about 23 minutes of play.
-
TacSimTacSim is 007 First Light's Tactical Simulation mode, run by Dr. Selina Tan at MI6. Its Escalations and Operations replay story locations with modifiers called Game Changers; challenges earn Intel and raise your Clearance Level, which unlock weapons and outfits. It needs an online connection. -
Combat and TakedownsCombat in 007 First Light mixes free-flowing hand-to-hand (punches, grabs, parries, side-steps, throws and environmental slams) with gunplay that opens only once Bond earns License to Kill. Focus slows time for precise shots, and takedowns can be silent or loud. -
Stealth and DisguisesStealth in 007 First Light is IO Interactive's Creative Approach: eavesdrop for Opportunities, pickpocket keycards, use Instinct to lure guards or bluff past them, and take on mission-specific roles such as a crew member or event staff. Getting caught is rarely fatal, and full stealth is never required. -
Gadgets007 First Light's Q Branch gadgets are the Q-Watch, the always-on Q-Lens, the Dart Phone, the Laser Strap, the Flash Mine, the Smoke Pod, the Missile Pen and the Shockwave Camera. They unlock through the story, run on batteries or chemicals, and are upgraded with Intel earned in TacSim. -
Beginner's GuideFor a first run of 007 First Light, play on Intended, scan every area with the Q-Lens, eavesdrop before you act, keep Instinct topped up with takedowns for bluffs, ration batteries and chemicals, and do not worry about missing collectibles, since nothing is missable and Chapter Select opens after the story. TacSim needs a connection and pays the Intel that upgrades gadgets.
