Metro 2039John Greenway
John Greenway is James Bond's mentor in 007 First Light, a former 00 agent who runs the revived 00 program's training, played by Lennie James.
John Greenway is James Bond's mentor in 007 First Light: "a former 00 agent" who now trains MI6's recruits, disciplined and by the book, and at odds with Bond's improvising (IOI and Amazon MGM Studios). Lennie James, known for Fear the Walking Dead, plays him (Xbox Wire). When the rogue agent 009 resurfaces, the two must work together despite their differences, and the story is built around that pairing. His fate is described only under the heading that says "Spoilers".

Who is Greenway?
IO Interactive describes him as the 00 program's training instructor and a former 00 agent himself (IOI and Amazon MGM Studios). IOI has never said which number he held. In training he gives Bond a polygraph, and he goes into the field with him from the hunt for 009 onward (Into Indie Games). He appears in The Game Awards trailer of Dec 11, 2025, held with Bond in a standoff by Bawma (IO Interactive).
In missions he is a partner as much as a character. In Knightfall, Beebom notes, he gives Bond boosts, moves a glass block and opens doors (Beebom). In The Past Never Dies he talks the pair out of trouble with Bawma (Into Indie Games). A "Photo of Greenway" is one of the Intel collectibles in that mission (PowerPyx).
Lennie James
Lennie James is best known for Fear the Walking Dead (Xbox Wire). He was named with the main cast on Sep 3, 2025 (TheSixthAxis). The part earned him a Best Supporting Performer nomination at the Golden Joystick Awards 2026, beside Patrick Gibson's for Best Lead Performer; the winners are named in London on Nov 11, 2026 (Dork). See Awards and Nominations.
Spoilers: what happens to Greenway?
Skip this section if you have not finished Time to Die. In Aleph he gets Bond and himself released by naming "Harmony", Bawma's long-lost sister, and 009's stash holds a note addressed to him: "Here's your evidence, Greenway" (Into Indie Games; Into Indie Games). After the raid on Webb Industries he resigns from MI6 when Bond learns THEIA's failures were hidden (Beebom). He comes back in Vietnam as a sniper to cover Bond against Damien Webb, and dies after the fight; his last words to Bond are "Don't let it change you" (Into Indie Games; GamingBolt). The final scene is at his grave, where M offers Bond his number (Beebom). See Ending Explained.
A fan wiki calls Greenway a former 009, but no source we trust says so, and every guide treats 009 as a different man.
