Gadgets

007 First Light's Q Branch gadgets are the Q-Watch, the always-on Q-Lens, the Dart Phone, the Laser Strap, the Flash Mine, the Smoke Pod, the Missile Pen and the Shockwave Camera. They unlock through the story, run on batteries or chemicals, and are upgraded with Intel earned in TacSim.

007 First Light gives Bond eight named Q Branch gadgets: the Q-Watch, the Q-Lens, the Dart Phone, the Laser Strap, the Flash Mine, the Smoke Pod, the Missile Pen and the Shockwave Camera. Gadgets are one of the four parts of what IO Interactive calls the Creative Approach, beside Spycraft, Instinct and Combat, and IOI's own description is short: they hack cameras, cut through locked doors with a laser and distract guards, with more unlocking as the story goes on. Bond has no skill tree of his own: GamingBolt notes he is physically capable from the start, so the gadgets and their upgrades are the game's real progression. This page lists each one with what it does, when guide sites say it arrives, what it costs to use and how to upgrade it, as of Hotfix 1.3.2 (Oct 29, 2026).

Chapter numbers in the table are PowerPyx's 17-chapter count, not IOI's mission numbers; the two are matched on Missions List.

Q-Lens

The Q-Lens is Bond's scanning view and is never taken away. Game Rant compares it to a "Detective Mode": it marks pickpocket targets and anything the Q-Watch can act on. TheSixthAxis adds that it shows hostiles, resources and points of interest, and the PlayStation Blog's hands-on, as GamingBolt reported it, has it spotting enemies through walls and revealing hackable devices. In The Past Never Dies it is how you spot the traps on a booby-trapped boat. The button for it is on Controls.

Q-Watch

The Q-Watch is the hacking tool. Game Rant likens it to Watch Dogs: you set off electronics from a distance to pull guards away. GamingBolt's preview adds a laser that cuts ropes at range and briefly stuns an enemy so you can close in for a takedown. It can even hack a live grenade before it goes off, which is the "Damp squib" trophy. PowerPyx dates the Q-Watch to its Chapter 4, The Heart of the Matter, while TheSixthAxis says Bond starts with the Q-Watch and a service pistol; the first mission is short, and the two may describe different moments of the opening. Holding L1 (LB on Xbox) with it highlights nearby collectibles in yellow.

Dart Phone

The Dart Phone fires poison darts that make a character sick, or in TheSixthAxis's words, "chemical darts that make people queasy". A sick target opens a route or a pickpocket chance: Beebom's Slovakia walkthrough uses it to dart hotel staff and lift the Staff Key and Cellar key. Game Rant warns that a darted target may be shut behind a door you then have to kick open, alerting enemies. PowerPyx dates it to Chapter 5, A New Home, as an automatic story unlock.

Laser Strap

IOI's patch notes call it the "Laser Gadget"; players and guides say Laser Strap. It burns through padlocks and, per Shacknews, temporarily blinds enemies. PowerPyx adds that it can disarm an enemy (the "Disarming personality" trophy) and runs on blue batteries. Bond tests it, with the Flash Mine, in the Q-Lab before The Past Never Dies, which PowerPyx counts as its Chapter 9. Several collectibles sit behind padlocks, so PowerPyx's advice is to keep the Laser Strap equipped from Chapter 9 on (Collectibles).

Flash Mine, Smoke Pod and Missile Pen

The Flash Mine ("stun mines" in TheSixthAxis's review) blinds enemies; IOI's 1.1.0 notes show it can be attached directly to enemies. The Smoke Pod lays smoke that breaks line of sight, useful for slipping away once spotted. The Missile Pen is named among the gadgets by Shacknews, but no source read describes its effect or the mission where it arrives, and IOI's notes mention it only for its alternate skin.

The Shockwave Camera

The Shockwave Camera is in the game: IOI's patch notes name it twice, once for showing a black image in the Journal (1.1.0, Jul 24, 2026) and once for being wrongly equipped during the Shooting Range (1.3.0, Oct 1, 2026). Gamewatcher also lists it among the gadgets (Jul 21, 2026). IOI has not said what it does or when you get it. IGN's May 27, 2026 guide calls it, in passing, a camera that creates a powerful shock wave, and in snyplays's May 29, 2026 video of every weapon and gadget (the clip above), Bond raises it like a camera and it fills the view with a bright white flash; neither shows what it does to an enemy, so treat any fuller description as unconfirmed.

Batteries and chemicals

Every gadget except the Q-Lens draws on a resource. Electronic gadgets use batteries and chemical ones use chemicals, a system Shacknews found "a little silly". One use can spend half a reserve or more, so PlayStation LifeStyle found itself backtracking for refills. Refills lie around each level and show up in the Q-Lens. On the 00 Difficulty, resources restore only a fraction of a gadget's use and gadgets cannot be used inside a guard's line of sight.

How many gadgets can you carry?

Only a few per mission: Game Rant notes that the gadget choice changes how you approach a situation. AllThings. How says four gadgets are bound to four buttons before a mission and fired while holding the Q-Lens. IOI has not published the slot count. In IGN's May 27, 2026 guide (the clip above), Bond takes two gadgets besides the Q-Watch at first and three later in the game; Mortismal Gaming's review after 100% (May 29, 2026) counts three at first and four late in the game. You equip them at the gadget table in the Q-Lab. In the first playthrough the loadout is fixed between chapters; since update 1.3.0, New Game Plus adds Gadget On Demand, which lets you swap gadgets at any time during a mission, limited to those unlocked at that point of the story. Chapter Select can also hand out a different set: some players lost the Laser Strap after loading a checkpoint and replayed from Chapter 9.

Gadget upgrades

Upgrades are bought with Intel, the currency earned in TacSim. GamingBolt's example is the Laser Strap, whose Power can be raised, with two more upgrade slots to unlock. IOI's 1.1.0 notes name three Flash Mine upgrades, "Radius Increase", "Power Increase" and "Resource Change", plus a Flash Mine "Size Upgrade" in TacSim; a "Resource Swap" upgrade also exists, since 1.3.0 fixed it carrying over from TacSim into story missions. The full upgrade tree with every cost has not been published by IOI or a guide site we read, as of Nov 4, 2026. IOI's Year One Roadmap promised more gadget upgrades during Year One.

Gleaming skins and alternate looks

The Deluxe Edition's Gleaming Pack holds four gadget skins: the Gleaming Lighter, Gleaming Earphones, Gleaming Dart Gun and Gleaming Pen, per Insider Gaming; the Xbox store lists a "Gleaming Phone" in place of the Dart Gun. Neither says which gadget each skin dresses. The free Extended Operations update (1.3.0, Oct 1, 2026) added alternate skins for the Dart Phone, Flash Mine, Smoke Pod and Missile Pen.
