Sequel
No 007 First Light sequel has been announced as of Nov 4, 2026. IOI's Hakan Abrak said before launch that one could follow if players love it, and Amazon Games' Jeff Gattis said in June and July 2026 that a sequel "should be made" but that nothing about who would make it is decided.
No sequel to 007 First Light has been announced as of Nov 4, 2026. The signs point toward one: IO Interactive's CEO Hakan Abrak said before launch that if the game went well, "why not?", the game sold 4 million copies in three months, and Amazon Games' Jeff Gattis said in June 2026 that "a sequel should be made". But Amazon MGM Studios, not IOI, holds the rights to future Bond games, and Gattis said in July that nothing had been decided about who would develop or publish the next one. IOI's next announced game is its own, codenamed Project Fantasy.

Will there be a 007 First Light 2?
Nobody has said yes. What has been said, in order:
| Date | Who | What they said |
|---|---|---|
| Before launch (reported May 6, 2026) | Hakan Abrak, IOI CEO, to The Game Business | "If this goes really well and it's a beloved thing from the community, why not?" |

Abrak's other question was whether there would be "a community that likes him and wants to see more". The numbers since then: 1.5 million copies in 24 hours, more than 2.7 million in a week, 4 million in three months, and 7 million wishlists by Oct 7, 2026, with critics' scores around 87 (see Reviews and Sales and Players). Search reports that Abrak hopes for a Bond trilogy could not be traced to a quote in any source read for this page, so this page does not repeat them as fact.
Who would make a sequel?
Two companies matter. IO Interactive developed and self-published 007 First Light under a license first agreed in 2020 with MGM, EON Productions and Delphi (see IO Interactive). Every 007 First Light announcement since launch is a joint one from "IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios". In June, Amazon's Gattis said Amazon did not have full rights to this game and that the next would be done by MGM and "theoretically" Amazon Game Studios, which read to TheSixthAxis as a sequel "maybe without IO Interactive". In July he walked that back: no developer or publisher had been chosen, and given this game's success, "you probably want IOI developing it".
What is IOI working on next?
IOI is still supporting 007 First Light through its Year One Roadmap, with the Mauritania TacSim content and a mission built on an MI6 alliance with Bawma still to come, and the Switch 2 release on Mar 18, 2027. Beyond that, IOI says it is developing a new IP codenamed Project Fantasy. IOI's About page lists the Hitman games and 007 First Light; 007 First Light vs Hitman compares them.
Is 007 First Light canon with the films?
Not directly. Insider Gaming reports that "007 First Light isn't canon in the general James Bond lore": IOI and Amazon MGM discussed making it canonical early on and decided it would "live alongside the future of 007" without an open link to the films. Its Bond, played by Patrick Gibson, is a new, younger take (see James Bond). IGN's reviewer Luke Reilly put it this way in IGN's May 29, 2026 review video: "this is setting up its own Bond universe", with no Judi Dench "air dropping" in for a link to the films. The Story page covers how his origin is told, and James Bond Games in Order places the game among earlier Bond games.
Does the ending set up a sequel? (light spoilers)
The game closes the way the films do: after the classic gun barrel sequence, a final card reads "James Bond Will Return". It is the only promise of more inside the game, and it is not an announcement. No post-credits scene has been reported. GamingBolt's Jun 4, 2026 ending video calls the game a complete origin story and says that if a sequel is greenlit, "there's more than enough emotional runway to cover". The open story threads are on Ending Explained, which carries full spoilers.

007 First Light vs Hitman007 First Light plays like a more guided, cinematic Hitman: IO Interactive's Glacier engine, social stealth and several routes to each goal carry over, but the levels are more linear, the hero is a named Bond, and set pieces and chases replace Hitman's open sandboxes.
